TMU Centre for Urban Innovation
PLANT Architect Inc. provided the landscape architect services to MTA for this LEED Silver Centre for Urban Innovation (CUI) at Toronto Metropolitan University (formerly Ryerson University). The CUI consolidates TMU research groups including Urban Water and the Centre for Urban Energy into a hub that facilitates cross-disciplinary collaboration. This project involved the renovation of a heritage property – the former Theatre School Building – and the construction of a five-storey addition to the east and a three-storey addition to the north.
For the main entry on Gerrard Street, PLANT designed a hardscape plaza with shade trees and seating-integrated planters. For the McGill Street secondary entry, we designed a green, leafy space to complement the residential character of the street. We were also responsible for improvements to City of Toronto land adjacent to the site.
The landscape was completed in 2019.
