An evocative surviving outbuilding from the former Mulock family estate will have a dynamic new life when the site is transformed into the Town of Newmarket’s 16-acre Mulock Park. Constructed more than a century ago as stables and workshop/storage space for riding and hunting pursuits, this building will become the new park’s artist in residence studio. The former stables and a new conservatory will front onto a shared outdoor ‘art yard’ positioned between them. This arrangement, along with locating the conservatory’s potting shed on the artist side of the compound, will invite the artists engaged for a residency term to collaborate with Mulock Park’s gardeners or guest landscape architects.

Studio and informal gallery space inside the former stables will be open, rugged, and flexible–lots of exposed structure, combined with expanses of pin-up board. On the exterior, a narrow, billboard-like addition with “art yard” signage projects out beyond the conservatory’s footprint, amping up the destination’s visibility to park visitors.
