Mount Dennis Parkettes

These two parkettes support the Mount Dennis BIA Streetscape Master Plan objective of creating a naturalized, cohesive, and pedestrian-friendly identity for this northwest Toronto district, with Weston Road as its spine.

The new parkette at the Denarda Street corner introduces an Autumn Blaze maple tree and a lush perennials planter to what was previously a barren stretch of asphalt. The off-grid angling of the curved, tree-bordering bench and the planter is a nod to the neighbourhood’s patchwork of intersecting grids.

PLANT’s Eglinton parkette completely reconceives the design of the existing gateway on this site, while preserving its mature trees (and enhancing their root system health by replacing large, heavy boulders with permeable paving). Along the splayed intersection of Eglinton Avenue and Weston Road, a curved bench borders a large new planter filled with pollinator-attracting perennials.

Corten steel, a signature material in the BIA’s branding palette, spells out “Mount Dennis” at Eglinton, edges the Denarda planter, and is used for tree grates at both sites.
