Duncanwoods Townhouses

Constructed in 1966, this seven-block complex of two-storey townhouses occupies a compact site that spans multiple grade changes. PLANT is completing a holistic renewal of all 57 units, which will remain fully occupied throughout construction.
Scope of work includes excavation for foundation waterproofing and the re-instatement of impacted landscape, exterior window and door replacement, installation of additional insulation, re-cladding and required structural repairs, and mechanical and electrical upgrades for improved tenant comfort and 25% better energy efficiency.

Significant changes to the exterior will give the townhouses a more contemporary appearance and address some unloved aspects of the original design: the short, sloped roofs that partially block the upper windows will be removed, and the front and rear elevations, which have until now been confusingly similar, will be clearly differentiated. EIFS and cement board cladding will add textural contrast and a more varied colour palette. Canopies will be installed above the previously unprotected front doors.
