Dickson Park Garden
This mid-century modern residence presents a reserved, single-storey facade to the street but occupies a sloping site that allows it to open out on two levels at the rear. New elements at the front in this exterior renovation include a cedar screen on the house and a stepped, concrete walkway leading to the main entrance. At the rear, PLANT designed a new deck, accessed from the yard by a concrete stair landing and new structural steel stair suspended off the garage.
Prior to its renovation, the house had a large but rather featureless back yard. The new deck creates a contrasting choice of outdoor rooms: the deck itself, which has an automated retractable canopy to allow for full sun exposure or shade, and the more sheltered, cedar-clad space below it. New plantings of perennials and ornamental grasses are integrated with a new, stone-paved patio.
