Cortleigh Boulevard Garden
Working to revitalize the entrance and outdoor living spaces of a residential home, this project involves the rethinking of the front and rear gardens. The front garden design works around a large existing linden tree and its extensive root system to integrate the driveway, walkway, and entrace of the house into a seamlessly flowing space. New plantings create an extensive landscape that changes with the seasons.
Since the owners’ children have grown up, the existing back yard dominated by play structures has been reconceived as a space for adolescents and adults. The new garden is divided into four areas: a patio, a hot tub area, a sun tanning area, and a grassy area with a new tree for the owners’ dogs. The patio is raised, with a permanent canopy/pergola structure that has automated louvres to temper the sun while providing cover in the rain. Rich planting with a colourful palette defines each of these areas.
