Venice Biennale 2012
In August of 2012, PLANT was invited to present work at the 13th Biennale of Architecture in Venice, as part of an exhibition entitled Traces of Centuries & Future Steps. PLANT’s installation comprised a free-standing two-sided folded aluminum form, clad in (and inset with) images of two projects: the Podium Roof Garden at Nathan Phillips Square, and the Dublin Grounds of Remembrance. The installation is an exploration of the representation of built spaces as experienced through time, using cinematic film strips and individual detail views to portray the routes around and character of the sites. To experience the sites here also required walking the site, periodically peering into the key views. The spatial form balanced the opposing demands of wanting the longest project possible to create a journey for the spectator, with the smallest packaging concept possible to minimize travel costs and duties.
The exhibition ran until 25 November 2012 at the Palazzo Bembo in Venice.
