Beach Village BIA Master Plan
Toronto’s Beach neighbourhood has a seaside town’s casual ambience. The Beach Village Business Improvement Area commissioned PLANT to complete a streetscape master plan renewal that would strengthen links between the Queen Street East retail district and the Lake Ontario shore, and reinforce the area’s identity as an active and eco-oriented community. Noting that 34 corners within this BIA are available for public development, we have reconceived these spaces as opportunities to create a loop of destinations connecting Queen to the boardwalk. Each new parkette offers active recreational opportunities, such as a stretching station or a children’s play area, as well as places to relax. Plantings promote beach-related environmental concepts. Seating options such as wave-shaped benches or a lifeguard tower-inspired viewing station thematically link the parkettes to the shore. The parkettes would also provide additional sites for the popular annual Winter Stations temporary art installations along the Beach waterfront.
