Asphalt Poetry

Poetry needs to be read more than once. Read a little today, then a little more tomorrow. Read it all at once. Or savour only some of the words today, and make another selection tomorrow. Read it while you are walking. Read it while you are cycling. Read it fleetingly while you are on the streetcar. ASPHALT POETRY is both a 35.8m-long ground mural and a performance collaboration. A poem by Ronna Bloom – “The City” – runs both ways across the ground so that people can read it from the north or the south, at different speeds, words intermingling. This parklet was one of many installed as part of the King Street Pilot, a project in downtown Toronto to enhance public space, improve transit efficiency, and refocus the street to pedestrians. Projects were selected in an open competition for temporary parklets.
