Alwington Landscape / Garden Pavilion

The owners of a 1960s house on Lake Ontario wanted to update the property’s landscape and maximize their enjoyment of its spectacular views. PLANT is rethinking the entire sequence of spaces from the house to the water, to address a set of interrelated issues. A safer, meandering descent to the lake incorporates a set of wide steps, terraced seating and planting areas, and new stone walks. Other elements designed to optimize specific views include a three-season lakeside garden pavilion, terraced retaining walls, and a new dock. The dock and terraced retaining system will accommodate the lake’s fluctuating water levels and intense wave action.
We are also re-aligning the landscape with in-progress interior renovations. Exterior improvements include adding a deck to the new the master bedroom and a patio refurbishment that will provide a pergola-covered dining area with commanding views out over the lake and to a lush east woodland-inspired planted zone. Throughout the site, planting and subtle lighting will enable extended use of the landscape.
