December 2025 Mulock Park update
Town of Newmarket’s Mulock Park now more than 80% complete

Construction at 16-acre Mulock Park is now more than 80% complete! We’re excited to share this Town of Newmarket time-lapse video update and looking forward to the PLANT-designed park’s opening in 2026. Some highlights:
- The concrete pour for Ontario’s longest municipal refrigerated ice trail is now complete. As skaters glide through the beautiful woodland of this former private estate, they will catch sight of commissioned artworks installed throughout the park.
- Imagine a playground inspired by the regenerative life cycle of a forest. In play areas representing the various parts of a fallen tree, kids can climb inside – or on top of – a giant ‘hollow log’, pump water and watch it sluice down a ‘branch’, or explore a log pile studded with taller-than-they-are mushrooms. The play areas and landscape plantings are now in place, awaiting the finishing touch: the laying of sod in the spring.
- In addition to being a place where people can enjoy some fresh air and reconnect with nature, Mulock Park will be a hub of cultural activity featuring an Artist Studio and the four-season Glass Hall greenhouse conservatory with a shared a courtyard to host various educational programing, events and opportunities to explore art. The Artist Studio adaptively reuses the former estate’s stables; the new Glass Hall will be a light-flooded green oasis in winter and a lush indoor/outdoor community event space in the warmer months.
- Throughout the site, landscapes including a wetland-spanning entry bridge and a riverine water feature inspired by the glacial shaping of the region’s geography encourage reflection on water’s centrality to life.
- A heritage garden pays tribute to horticultural acclaim associated with the site when it was the summer home of Sir William Mulock (1843 – 1944), with new gardens throughout the park using native plant species and creating an expanded tree canopy.
