Bedford Road is a pocket-garden project located in Toronto’s Annex. PLANT was commissioned to create a functional outdoor space that could offer privacy, connect the home and garden, create storage space, and support entertaining, gardening, and outdoor play.
The existing house was disconnected from the yard due to the size of the raised deck. By reducing its size, we ensured the deck would descend gently into the yard, creating a more fluid corridor between home and garden, as well as new views of the yard.
As part of our overall approach, we introduced new plantings and foliage to protect the garden from neighbouring views and offer a cool place for the owners to relax on warm summer days. Now, the owners and their children have an accessible, private outdoor oasis in which they can play, entertain, and plant their herbs and vegtables.
