This project addresses two existing conditions at the Faculty of Applied Health and Community Studies, Centre for Healthy Communities at Sheridan’s Davis Campus: a long-standing desire to have a mural filling the two-storey space facing the campus, and a heat gain and glare issue in the fully glazed study and lounge space. The project comprises a two-layer installation of white vinyl (heat control) and printed perforated window blinds (glare control). The graphic imagery – depicting the concept of community, diversity and working together – was developed in collaboration with students and faculty at Sheridan through a series of charettes and over the course of a summer work term, in consultation with stakeholders and administration at the College and directed by PLANT Architect Inc. The project was an interdisciplinary collaboration between the Illustration, Industrial Design, Architectural Science faculties, the Sustainability Office, and PLANT.
